Daimler Buses has been confirmed by Hamburger Hochbahn AG as the sole supplier of up to 350 fully electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro and eCitaro G city buses. Over the next five years, the new solo and articulated buses are to be delivered to the public transport operator Hamburger Hochbahn AG in the northern German city of Hamburg.
The new eCitaro buses of Hamburger Hochbahn AG are equipped with the NMC3 battery generation and they have a whole host of assistance systems such as Preventive Brake Assist and Sideguard Assist with functions that, in some cases, go far beyond what is required by the General Safety Regulation (GSR) of the European Union, according to Daimler Buses. The manufacturer stated that Hamburger Hochbahn AG "was particularly impressed by the low total cost of ownership (TCO) and the ease of repair of the eCitaro
over the entire long service life of the electric buses". Hamburger Hochbahn AG has been awarded the German Sustainability Award 2024. This award recognises pioneering projects for environmental and social commitment to the transformation towards a sustainable future. By the beginning of the 2030s, its entire bus fleet is to be converted to emission-free drive systems. Hamburger Hochbahn AG relies 100 percent on green electricity to operate its electric buses.
