Alexander Dennis announced that Arriva UK Bus has ordered another 164 new Enviro200 and Enviro400 low-emission buses for its regional bus operations in England and Wales, taking the total including recent deployments to 221. The order includes 113 Alexander Dennis Enviro200 single-deck buses and 51 Enviro400 double-deckers. It is the largest single order Arriva has ever placed with Alexander Dennis for its regional bus operations.
The new order follows the delivery of 57 similar low-emission buses at the turn of the year, including 50 new Enviro200 and Enviro400 buses for West Yorkshire which were officially launched on 13th March at an event in Wakefield. The in total 221 buses are expected to be allocated to 15 depots across England and Wales when delivered throughout summer and autumn 2026. 97 of the latest Enviro200 will be 11.8m long and fitted with heavier-duty six-cylinder engines, while 11 buses at 10.8m length and five 8.9m examples will have four-cylinder engines. The Enviro400 double-deckers will be 10.5m in length and 4.2m high. All of Arriva’s new Enviro200 and Enviro400 will use the manufacturer’s SmartPack efficiency technology to
bring down exhaust emissions and improve fuel economy, giving the vehicles low-emission bus status and qualifying Arriva UK Bus for Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) incentive payments. Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director of Arriva UK Bus, said: “We are delighted to confirm a further sizeable order with Alexander Dennis for buses locally built in our North of England heartland, supporting the local economy.” Arriva also bought 30 next-generation Enviro400EV electric double-deckers for its London operation last year. The combined total of 251 vehicles makes Alexander Dennis the largest single beneficiary of Arriva’s current investment programme to transform and modernise its UK bus operations.
