Dutch operator EBS, part of the Israeli Egged Group, has ordered 73 electric buses that will begin operating in the Dutch province of Zeeland in December 2026. The buses will be supplied by the Chinese company BYD. The order includes 64 electric 12-meter buses and 9 electric 15-meter buses. The first vehicles will be delivered in the summer of 2026.
EBS will provide public transport in Zeeland starting in December 2026 under the name REIZEN DOOR ZEELAND. The Province of Zeeland, in collaboration with municipalities, will supplement the network of fixed bus routes with the Flex transport-on-demand system to offer a better, more reliable, and more flexible transport option in collaboration with local transport companies. Passenger preferences formed the basis for the design of the new BYD buses. In June, more than two hundred passengers, drivers, and interest groups discussed the design of the electric BYD buses. Their ideas and wishes have been translated into an interior that combines comfort, accessibility, and contemporary design. The buses will have comfortable seats with purple upholstery, the color of REIZEN DOOR
ZEELAND (TRAVEL THROUGH ZEELAND), and striking green priority seats that immediately catch the eye. Passengers can use free Wi-Fi and charge their phones or tablets while traveling. Clear color contrasts for handles and stop buttons, and a wheelchair space opposite the rear door, should enhance accessibility. In the coming months, EBS will collaborate with the province, municipalities, and various partners on the preparation and implementation of the parking facilities, including the charging infrastructure. The EBS fleet consists primarily of emission-free buses, with more than 500 vehicles distributed across the concessions in the Netherlands and from 2026, also in the province Zeeland.
