MAN Truck & Bus has been awarded as the main supplier in Deutsche Bahn's (DB) largest bus contract in the company's history. A framework agreement for more than 3,000 vehicles has been concluded with Deutsche Bahn for the period from 2027 to 2032. Contract covers city and intercity buses of the models MAN Lion’s City, MAN Lion’s City E and MAN Lion’s Intercity LE.
Since the partnership between both companies started in 2010 almost 5,000 MAN buses are delivered to Deutsche Bahn to date. A significant proportion of the buses to be delivered within the new framework agreement will be fully electric – a strong signal for sustainable mobility in local public transport and a milestone for electromobility in Germany. The buses will be used by the regional transport subsidiary DB Regio AG throughout Germany. “The new framework agreement with Deutsche Bahn is a historic contract for buses and an outstanding vote of confidence in our products and our team,” says Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus. A significant proportion of the vehicles to be delivered are city buses
with battery-electric drive – available in 10-, 12- or 18- meter versions. MAN Lion’s Intercity LE vehicles in three different lengths. For both MAN Lion's City and Intercity family Deutsche Bahn can also choose from a wide range of low-floor buses with conventional diesel or CNG drives including MAN EfficientHybrid. Harmen van Zijderveld, Member of the DB Management Board for Regional Transport: "The long-term contracts guarantee that we will always have modern vehicles and can continue to develop them in close cooperation with the manufacturers. The fact that the vast majority of the buses come from a Munich-based manufacturer is good news for Germany as an industrial location."
