Irizar e-mobility has signed a contract with London Gatwick Airport to supply 14 electric ie tram buses. They will be the first completely electric buses at London Gatwick. The new 14 vehicles, all 18 metres long, will bring passengers from the long stay car parks to the terminals.
The Irizar ie tram for Gatwick will be equipped with luggage racks inside for greater comfort and functionality. These Irizar ie trams will be powered by latest generation Irizar batteries and charged using an ultra-fast pantograph system, which can do a full charge in less than six minutes. In addition the buses will be equipped with digital vision cameras. London Gatwick is implementing a six-year, £2 billion sustainable growth programme including an ambitious plan to be a net zero airport by 2030. The airport is owned and managed by
VINCI Airports and GIP (Global Infrastructure Partners) and is with 43 million annual passengers, the UK’s second largest and one of Europe’s top ten airports. It generates £5.5 billion GVA and supports over 76,000 jobs (2023). Almost 60 airlines fly from the airport to over 150 short-haul and more than 50 long-haul destinations. In the United Kingdom are currently more than 50 Irizar electric buses operating in several cities.
