At the FIAA fair in Madrid Spanish manufacturer Irizar presented the new generation of their electric intercity bus, the Irizar i3 electric. It is a class II low entry bus with a renewed design. Also at the Irizar stand there was a new generation Irizar i6S Efficient and the first produced unit of the i6S Efficient Hydrogen. The Irizar ie tram completed the verhicle line-up.
The new electric Irizar i3 has a completely cutting edge design. With a more aggressive front and sharper lines, it is in line with the rest of the range of Irizar vehicles. It is a low-entry vehicle completely designed for the sustainable future of the intercity environment. Irizar has used lighter and stronger components resulting in a reduced weight by 1000 kg. The range is according to Irizar more than 400 km on a single charge. The dashboard has been redesigned, and driver comfort has been maximised. The Irizar i3 electric, in addition to a range of vehicles with a new generation of lighter, more comfortable integral Irizar chassis, offers up to 50% lower consumption as Irizar proudly announces. The vehicle meets the new GSR2 regulations by including advanced components, like cameras and radar, to ensure driver and passenger safety. Irizar says it complies with the R155 and R156 European regulations for
cybersecurity management systems and vehicle software updates. The electronic architecture of the vehicle makes it possible to do data analysis for detecting incidents and implementing preventive maintenance measures. The bodywork of the new electric Irizar i3 is available in an integral self-supporting configuration and with different electric chassis. The Irizar i3 model is also still available with a diesel, biodiesel, HVO, hybrid or gas engine. Irizars new Efficient Integral generation offers an additional reduction of consumption of up to 5%. The new generation also meets all the GSR2 and cybersecurity (R155 and R156) standards. The new HMI for the Irizar i8 and Irizar i6S models come with a renewed design and a more ergonomic and adapted integration of driver needs. In addition, the digital camera system available for this range provides better visibility in any weather conditions.
After its presentation last year at Busworld the hydrogen vehicle is a pioneering project and a show of Irizar’s firm commitment to offering a complete range of zero-emissions vehicles for both long and short range. The first Irizar i6S Efficient Hydrogen has already been certified under European standards. It has a range of up to 1000 km and optimised charging times around 20 minutes. It can run in 100% electric mode for short times, if required. The Irizar i6 Efficient Hydrogen is currently in an advanced phase of testing of different typology and will be available on the market in 2026. The future range of hydrogen vehicles that currently includes the Irizar i6S and Irizar i4 models will have substantial improvements over the first version, according to Irizar and will have a larger baggage compartment and passenger capacity, a longer range and lower weight.
