RTA Dubai places order for 76 Volvo double-deckers

Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has ordered 76 Volvo B13RLE double-decker buses. The 76 double-deckers will be build by Gemilang Coachworks, based in Johor, Malaysia, and will feature an all-new exterior and interior design. The contract also includes a comprehensive 10-year maintenance agreement and supports the long-term operational reliability of RTA’s expanding fleet.

The order is the outcome of a tender process and is made possible by the collaborative efforts of Volvo Buses and its local business partner, Al-Futtaim Auto & Machinery Company (FAMCO). With this order Volvo Buses introduces its B13R Euro 6 chassis to Dubai for the first time and as Volvo states "reaffirms its long-standing commitment to the United Arab Emirates and the broader Middle East region". Gemilang Coachworks is specialised in aluminium structure. Each vehicle will

feature the latest Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), incorporating real-time tracking, automated passenger information, traffic management integration, and predictive maintenance. With this order, RTA’s Volvo fleet will expand to 592 buses. The new Volvo double-deckers will be put into service for commuter travelling in both, city and inter-urban application.
