MOIA, the technology subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, is presenting the ID.Buzz AD, Volkswagen's first fully autonomous production model. The new ID.Buzz AD is specially designed for use in mobility services and is part of a comprehensive overall package that also includes a software ecosystem and services for operators of autonomous mobility services. With the autonomous ID.Buzz AD, Volkswagen wants to serve the markets in the EU and the US.
With the MOIA overall package, Volkswagen says it offers an autonomous mobility service consisting of a vehicle equipped with Mobileye's autonomous driving system and a self-developed 'Autonomous Driving Mobility as a Service' (AD MaaS) ecosystem. The software of this platform uses artificial intelligence (AI) to manage fleets in real time, automatically assist passengers, ensure safety and seamlessly integrate the service into existing
booking apps. The technology package also meets the most important legal requirements for SAE Level 4 automated vehicles, such as remote monitoring and the safe handling of emergency interventions, for example," Volkswagen said. With "Operator Enablement", full support is offered to operators of autonomous fleets in implementing and using an AD ecosystem; from simulation and training to implementation and live monitoring in everyday use.
"With this fully autonomous total solution, we are creating a mobility offering that is truly unique in this form," explains Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group. "Our driverless ID.Buzz shuttles are part of an integrated total package consisting of leading technology, an attractive fleet, intelligent fleet management and a customer-oriented booking system. Hamburg is our starting point. From 2026, we will be introducing sustainable, autonomous mobility on a large scale in Europe and the USA."
