Transdev Nederland Holding has awarded a massive order to Solaris Bus & Coach. The manufacturer will supply Transdev with 96 zero-emission battery buses. Deliveries are scheduled for the last quarter of 2025. The fleet of battery-powered Solaris buses will serve public transportation in the province of Utrecht, central Netherlands.
Transdev Nederland Holding is one of the largest operators in the Netherlands. The order for 96 electric Solaris buses is a part of the company’s strategy to replace the entire fleet in Utrecht with zero-emission vehicles. From 2025 in the Netherlands all new buses must run on 100% renewable energy or fuel. This is stated in the "Administrative Agreement" on Zero Emission Bus Transport. From 2030, all buses must be completely emission-free. Currently, Utrcht operates 50 bus lines, carrying 30 million passengers annually. Transdev Netherlands opted for Solaris High Energy battery solution for all the buses ordered. This energy storage system offers very high
capacity, reducing the need for frequent recharging throughout the day. Solaris has a long standing relation with Transdev Nederland. Connexxion, subsidiary of Transdev Nederland, operates a fleet of 20 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses powered by fuel cell technology. These buses have been running in the Province South-Holland for three years. Solaris buses can also be spotted in Arnhem, where for several months, 10 Trollino 18 trolleybuses in the unique MetroStyle design have been operating on trolleybus lines, under the flag of Connexxion/Hermes.
