Volvo Buses launches a new electric coach chassis

The new Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis offers up to 720 kWh battery capacity and an operating range of up to 700 km. This new Volvo BZR Electric chassis for coach applications will be available with two or three axles and four to eight battery packs. It is a modular design which according to Volvo allows the chassis to be tailored for a wide range of operational needs and optimised for shorter distances or maximum range.

The electric chassis will be offered with bodies from different bodybuilders, depending on market and customer preferences. Depending on the body length between 9.5–14.9 m is possible with axle configuration: 4x2 or 6x2. The permitted GVW is up to 27,200

kg, the power output 200 kW or 400 kW and the energy storage system capacity is 360–720 kWh. The first Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis has already been bodied by Carrus Delta and is intended for customers in the Nordic and Benelux markets.

Carrus Delta produces the new electric bus in three lengths, all three-axle and 13.3, 14.0 or 14.9 metres long, and with Volvo's two-axle, automated gearbox. The chassis will also become available with bodies from other Volvo partners. With this new chassis Volvo Buses offers electromobility solutions for every segment: city, intercity, long-distance, and tour & charter. To meet different needs for charging at depots and on routes, the Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis offers both 250 kW CCS charging and 450 kW OppCharge. The chassis is also equipped with the latest versions of Volvo Buses’ active safety systems to protect both passengers and vulnerable road users.
