In January this year Svealandstrafiken placed an order for 60 Volvo 8900 Electric buses – the first orders since the model was launched – and 13 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated. Theses buses are to replace an earlier order from Svealandstrafiken for Dutch Ebusco, which Svealandstrafiken cancelled. The order also contained an option for another 33 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated buses which are now called for by Svealandstrafiken bringing the order to a total of 106 buses.
Svealandstrafiken will put the 106 new Volvo's into operation in the counties of Västmanland and Örebro in Sweden. The buses are to be expected to begin service in early 2027. The Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated city buses, due for delivery in 2026, will serve city traffic routes in Örebro. This latest order is not the first time the two partners have worked together – Svealandstrafiken already has 17 Volvo electric buses in operation on urban traffic routes in Västerås. “We are particularly pleased to have received a major order for our new intercity bus, the Volvo 8900 Electric. The Volvo 8900 Electric is built on Volvo’s BZR electromobility platform, a flexible platform that allows customers to optimize the number of batteries and charging necessary for all kinds of traffic. The bus has a redesigned driver’s environment including a dynamic instrument cluster. The chassis for the Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated and Volvo 8900 Electric will be manufactured at Volvo Buses’ facilities in Borås and Uddevalla in Sweden, while the bodies will be made at MCV, Volvo Buses’ partner in Egypt. A brand-new production facility is being built there, specially for the manufacture of complete electric buses from Volvo Buses.
